Big Sean Did Not Diss Kendrick Lamar with His 2024 ‘On The Radar’ Freestyle

Big Sean’s recent On the Radar freestyle stirred up the Internet with fiery bars that seemed to target Kendrick Lamar. Despite their history of beefing, West Coast media personality and Kendrick affiliate DJ Hed shut down the rumors on Twitter.[1]

Standout lyrics that followers mistook for disses included: “Ni**as looking for engagement like they got they knee bent/ I got better things to do than find someone to beef with,” and “Difference is I’m an activist and you drink actavis and I’m back acclimated […] And Imma need my cut off top it’s decapitated.” [2]

Big Sean and Kung Fu Kenny previously collaborated on “Control,” which showcased Kendrick’s show-stopping freestyle, where he boldly proclaimed himself the “King of New York” and declared that he would destroy his peers on the mic.[3] Due to their soured relationship and track record of subliminally dissing each other on tracks like “Humble” and “No More Interviews,” fans speculated their feud was back on.[4]

DJ Hed, who was a go-to source throughout the Kendrick and Drake beef, cleared up the rumblings. “I talked to Sean,” he tweeted. “The bar was ‘I got better things to do [than] find someone to beef with’ And it was not for Dot. Bar was directed at a different Gemini.”[5]

Fans immediately theorized the lyrics were addressing Kanye West, who claimed the worst decision of his career was signing Sean to G.O.O.D. Music during a 2021 Drink Champs interview.[6] He also mentioned how the Detroit rapper, a Democrat, opposed his political views and controversial opinions.Though Sean showed love to Ye for helping him establish his career, he addressed his comments as some “bitch ass shit.” [7]

Interestingly enough, Sean Don recently shared a Kanye-produced track called “Fighting Fires,” possibly slated to release on Yeezy’s Ty Dolla $ign-assisted collab album, Vultures 2.[8]
