50 Cent’s Workout Routine Was Influenced by D’Angelo

50 Cent has been known for his sculpted frame since he debuted on the mainstream hip-hop scene with 2003’s Get Rich or Die Tryin.’

Surprisingly, 50 wasn’t the most athletic growing up, but began boxing at the age of 12.

“[As a kid] I didn’t do well in team sports,” he revealed. “I would always identify with why we lost. So it was perfect to get into boxing, because there was no one to blame anything on. Boxing gave me a discipline that gives you an advantage.”

After being infamously shot nine times in 2000, the rapper made it a point to bulk up and achieve a stronger build. However, it was R&B singer D’Angelo who made him realize that his body could also help him attract the female species.

50 told the publication he took notice of how women reacted to D’Angelo’s video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” when it was released that same year.

“They were talking about a Brad Pitt line!” he said, describing the Fight Club actor’s abdominal features. “I’m like, ‘Wait, what’s that?! Oh, nah, that’s important!’”

50 continues to prioritize fitness, although he finds it more challenging to maintain his chiseled physique as he’s gotten older.

“It’s more important to get back in shape now than it was then,” he admitted. “Simply because I’m getting older. It’s harder.”
