Introduction:
For those entrenched in the gritty and soulful essence of hip-hop, today’s spotlight focuses on an artist whose influence spans decades. Dive into the life and times of Andre M. Barnes, the lyrical force known as AG.

Humble Beginnings:
Born on September 26, 1970, in The Bronx, New York, AG’s initiation into rap was as a member of the iconic hip-hop duo, Showbiz & A.G., and later as a vital component of the collective, D.I.T.C.

Early Career and Collaborations:
AG’s talent was evident from the start, making his debut on two tracks from Lord Finesse’s 1990 album, Funky Technician. It was during this project that AG first collaborated with Showbiz, kickstarting a partnership that would produce numerous albums over the next two decades.

Solo Ventures and Challenges:
While Showbiz & A.G. left an indelible mark, AG also ventured solo. Despite a rocky start with the 1999’s The Dirty Version, he bounced back years later with well-received albums like Get Dirty Radio. His collaborative spirit also shone brightly, producing albums with D.I.T.C. member O.C., and co-founding the label Red Apples 45 with producer Ray West.

Recent Highlights:
AG’s passion for hip-hop remains undiminished. From reuniting with Showbiz to drop more albums and EPs to collaborating with artists like John Robinson and DJ Crucial, AG’s journey has been nothing short of dynamic. Notably, he has also called Japan his home since 2016.

Musical Influences:
One defining moment in AG’s life was hearing Eric B. & Rakim’s “My Melody” at a local park jam, a track that inspired him to create music with the same profound impact.

Discography Snapshot:

  • Studio Albums: The Dirty Version (1999), Get Dirty Radio (2006), Everything’s Berri (2010), Taste of AMBrosia (2018), and Giant in the Mental (2022).
  • Collaborative Projects: Albums like Oasis with O.C. and Got Berriis – Revisited with Ray West. EPs include The Pianos Companion E.P. and The Nickel EP with Ray West.

Conclusion:
From his early collaborations with hip-hop legends to his recent solo and collaborative projects, AG’s journey is a testament to his enduring passion and contribution to the world of hip-hop. As he continues to influence and shape the genre, AG’s legacy remains steadfast and ever-evolving.
