Gucci Mane’s 1017: BiC Fizzle Faces a Murder Charge

Arkansas rapper BiC Fizzle, signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 in 2021, has been hit with a murder charge, adding to a string of serious legal cases across the label’s roster. [AllHipHop] Fans have long called it the “1017 curse”: Foogiano faced probation and fugitive charges, while Pooh Shiesty served federal time on a firearms conspiracy and now faces federal kidnapping and armed robbery charges tied to allegedly forcing Gucci to sign contract-release papers, remaining in custody ahead of a 2027 trial. [AllHipHop]

Lil Uzi Vert Sues Rehab Facility Over Alleged Relapse Leak

Lil Uzi Vert is in an ongoing civil suit against a California treatment center, alleging an employee violated medical confidentiality by sharing information about the rapper’s private relapse, which then spread publicly. [Rolling Out] The 2024 complaint claims breach of contract, violations of California medical-privacy law, and emotional distress, and a court recently rejected the defendants’ bid to force an in-person California deposition since Uzi isn’t a resident, with trial set for October. [Rolling Out]

Kodak Black’s Livestream Group Claim Sparks Backlash

On a livestream, Kodak Black claimed he, Kendrick Lamar, and Ye form a group he called “KKK,” drawing immediate backlash over the obvious Ku Klux Klan association and the baggage all three carry. [Rolling Out] Commentators revived debates about who Kendrick chooses to platform, given his 2022 Mr. Morale collaboration with Kodak, and about Ye’s attempts to move past his antisemitic statements, with some noting concern about fans egging on the livestream. [HotNewHipHop]

SoulRac, Craig G, and Chuck D Revive Golden-Era Political Rap

SoulRac’s new single “Welcome To America,” featuring Juice Crew legend Craig G and executive produced by Chuck D, is being framed as a revival of golden-era, message-driven hip-hop. [HipHopSince1987] The record takes on economic inequality, police brutality, and systemic injustice with raw, unapologetic storytelling, and Chuck D’s Public Enemy legacy gives the protest track added weight. [Blog]

The Strange One Donnie Darko Keeps Austin’s Alt-Rap Lane Weird and Personal

Austin’s The Strange One Donnie Darko (Don Jennings) pushed his alt-hip-hop lane forward with “Ain’t Grown Yet,” a tight, two-minute meditation on continuous growth and vulnerability. [Blog] Active since 2013, he blends alternative hip-hop, experimental production, and surreal storytelling behind a masked persona, slotting the track into an immersive catalog that includes his Space Hunters EP. [Blog]

Canadian Rapper Dimezz Taps Tay Keith and the Drake Pipeline by Association

Toronto-area artist Dimezz dropped “Do The Math,” produced by Memphis hitmaker Tay Keith, the producer behind records like “SICKO MODE” and “Jimmy Cooks” for Drake, Travis Scott, and others. [HipHopSince1987] The write-up frames the co-sign as strategically loaded, plugging a fellow Canadian into Drake’s sonic universe while delivering confident bars built for streets, clubs, and playlists. [HipHopSince1987]

Taquarius Ford’s Unbecoming Asks If Hip-Hop Is Raising You or Just Reflecting You

Author Taquarius Ford’s book Unbecoming: The Miseducation of a Poet examines hip-hop as one of culture’s greatest teachers, for better and worse. [HipHopSince1987] Rather than attacking the genre, Ford looks at how hip-hop, media, education, and religion shape identity, arguing the real question isn’t whether we’re influenced but whether we’re aware of what’s influencing us. [HipHopSince1987]

Dank Demoss’ “Breakfast Club Couch” Clip Goes Viral Again — with Context This Time

A 2025 Breakfast Club interview with rapper Dank Demoss is trending again because the show brought out a full couch for her, an image that keeps getting memed. [Dilema Radio] The reposts largely miss her actual point about how she’s treated because of her size and her argument that spaces should be built to accommodate bigger bodies; her related lawsuit against Lyft over a driver refusing her a ride has since been settled. [Dilema Radio]

Big Tigger’s Wife Arrested on Outstanding Kidnapping Warrants

The Breakfast Club unpacked the arrest of Big Tigger’s wife, Alicia Brown, taken into custody on outstanding kidnapping-related warrants tied to a 2019 case in Georgia, with extradition to Maryland pending. [YouTube] Hosts noted police had documented contact with her as recently as May even though the warrant issued July 1, and used the story to caution listeners about vetting the people they get involved with. [YouTube]

YG’s The Gentleman’s Club: Killing the Old Self Is the Real Move

YG stopped by The Breakfast Club to break down The Gentleman’s Club, an album he frames as a grown-man concept piece rather than a strip-club soundtrack, built around maturity and self-work. [YouTube] He spoke about staying tied to the streets long after he should have and “killing off” his old self without becoming a square, with the hosts framing that vulnerability as tougher than his old armor and suggesting Nipsey Hussle would be proud of the evolution. [YouTube]

Cipha Sounds and Talib Kweli Call Out Fake Gatekeepers in Hip-Hop Media

On Talib Kweli and Tef Poe’s podcast Lemme Ask You This, veteran DJ and comedian Cipha Sounds traced his path from Bad Boy-era club DJ to Chappelle’s Show to radio, using it to question who really gets to claim hip-hop authority. [Blackout Hip Hop] He and Kweli argued that being Black doesn’t automatically make someone an expert and that too many gatekeeping conversations are led by people not actively in the culture, while Cipha also dug into Latino participation and colorism. [Blackout Hip Hop]

Global Hip-Hop: Serbia’s Nostra Guerra Waves a Balkan Flag for “Authentic” Rap

Serbian rapper Nostra Guerra returned with “Trijumfalna kapija,” the fourth track from his Prva Krv EP, branding himself as a voice for authentic, original rap against imitation. [Blackout Hip Hop] Coming from the Serbian diaspora, he fuses a raw Balkan mentality with classic hip-hop principles, rapping about identity, loyalty to the culture, and leaving a mark through art. [Blackout Hip Hop]
