Keefe D’s Old Words Become Central Evidence in the Tupac Trial

Nevada prosecutors won a key ruling letting Keefe D’s 2008 police interview into evidence at his Tupac murder trial, on top of his 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend, in both of which he places himself in the Cadillac, says he supplied the gun, and names his late nephew as the shooter, accounts he now calls exaggerated entertainment. [AllHipHop] Prosecutors argue the detail makes them de facto confessions while the defense paints them as clout-chasing tall tales. [HotNewHipHop] Keefe’s team is also pushing jurors to set aside the media cloud around his prior claim that Diddy offered him $1 million to kill Tupac, an allegation that isn’t central to the state’s case, and is reportedly demanding a written apology from prosecutors over being charged at all. [AllHipHop]

Afroman Flips a Botched Raid Into a New Lawsuit

After Adams County deputies raided Afroman’s Ohio home in 2022 looking for drugs and kidnapping victims and filed no charges, he turned his own security footage into viral songs like “Lemon Pound Cake.” [Rolling Out] Seven deputies sued him in 2023 for defamation and invasion of privacy; now Afroman has countered with a new lawsuit against former Sergeant Brian Newland, claiming Newland’s earlier case defamed him, invaded his privacy, and cost him tens of thousands in legal fees, a very 2020s story of a novelty-hit legend using virality and the courts to fight back. [Rolling Out]

Another XXL Freshman Cypher Doubles as a Regional Map

XXL’s latest Freshman cypher features Trap Dickey, YKNiece, Skrilla, Babyfxce E, and Belly Gang Kushington, each planting a regional flag. [XXL] Trap Dickey opens by claiming outsized importance to South Carolina, YKNiece brings Georgia floss-and-transactional-dating talk, Skrilla delivers a cold drill-style confessional, Babyfxce E flexes wordplay and a no-cosign independence, and Belly Gang Kushington closes a cappella on jail, race, and rejecting the “Ratlanta” stereotype, compressing a decade of regional reality into one circle. [XXL]

Nipsey Hussle’s Estate Launches “Prolific” Brand and a Posthumous Album

The Marathon Clothing team announced a new Prolific collection of tees, vinyl, and CDs tied to a posthumous Nipsey Hussle and Bino Rideaux collab album, also titled Prolific. [XXL] The 15-track project is set for streaming, vinyl, and cassette with merch through a dedicated site, the latest example of estates stretching “the marathon” into long-tail brand architecture that keeps a legacy active in real time rather than frozen in tribute. [XXL]

SWAGG2X Signs to Pack A Punch on an Ownership-First Blueprint

Dallas rapper SWAGG2X joined indie label Pack A Punch Records in a partnership framed explicitly around ownership, content volume, and direct-to-fan connection rather than chasing major-label validation. [HipHopSince1987] The write-up stresses that modern success comes from strong teams, consistent output, and authenticity that often outperforms manufactured celebrity, with Pack A Punch positioning itself for full-brand building across music, video, merch, and socials. [HipHopSince1987]

Bradenton, Florida Gets Its Scene Documented — Starting With Drayko

HipHopSince1987’s guide to Bradenton, Florida argues the Gulf Coast city has had talent for years but almost no documentation, with artists building followings through burned CDs, neighborhood shows, and mixtapes before using streaming to widen their reach without losing a DIY ethos. [HipHopSince1987] The feature spotlights Drayko as a case study in developing in public, pointing to a 2026 run of singles that shows rapid catalog expansion and controlled delivery over aggressive production rather than waiting on a single polished debut. [HipHopSince1987]

Mandarin-Language Hip-Hop Is Quietly Building a Real U.S. Touring Circuit

HipHopSince1987’s touring analysis details how Mandarin-language hip-hop turned a supposed niche into a viable U.S. business, with a limited VIP drop selling out in 14 minutes and a San Diego stop ranking among the city’s earliest Mandarin rap shows. [HipHopSince1987] Labels then ported the playbook to collectives like TRAPCN across San Diego and L.A., using system-level operators for cross-city logistics, shifting the question from whether demand exists to whether the infrastructure can repeatedly serve it at scale. [HipHopSince1987]

MGK Reclaims “Rap Devil” Energy on Anime-Charged “JJK”

Machine Gun Kelly’s new single “JJK,” featuring Japanese artist Yuki Chiba, sees him explicitly reclaiming the “Rap Devil” identity from his 2018 Eminem diss to signal that his pop-punk phase didn’t dull his rap edge. [24HipHop] Chiba matches the intensity with a controlled, distinctly Japanese presence that makes the collaboration feel like a real artistic meeting rather than a clout-grab, a telling data point in MGK’s attempt to re-enter rap spaces without disowning his genre-hopping. [24HipHop]

Dave East and Harry Fraud’s Price of Pain Is Called His Best Since Def Jam

UndergroundHipHopBlog’s track-by-track on Dave East and Harry Fraud’s Price of Pain calls it the best East has sounded since leaving Def Jam, a run of soulful, sample-driven boom-bap with heavyweight guests. [UndergroundHipHopBlog] AZ, Snoop Dogg, Styles P, and Benny the Butcher appear across the project, whose themes stay classic East — revelation after making it, minding your business, and no time to waste — reading like a comfort-food record for fans who want him in pure rapper mode over Fraud’s dusty loops. [UndergroundHipHopBlog]

Ludacris, T.I., and Rick Ross Hit “Blue Dot Fever” on a Stadium Bill

A Louisville stadium concert with Ludacris, T.I., and Rick Ross is reportedly selling so slowly that social media has roasted the lineup and pricing, with some users dismissing the acts as long past radio relevance. [HipHopHero] Critics note Luda and Ross have upcoming free post-game shows for the Cincinnati Reds, making premium stadium prices a hard sell, and the discussion folds into the “blue dot fever” meme of Ticketmaster maps full of unsold seats, a harsh snapshot of how 2000s nostalgia has limits at stadium scale. [HipHopHero]

Albeastmode Drops Five Albums in a Single Day to Tell a Bigger Story

Independent rapper Albeastmode released five full-length projects on the same day, positioning the move less as a gimmick and more as a way to deliver a complete picture of his personality and evolution rather than one chapter at a time. [24HipHop] Each album has its own identity but together they form a narrative about embracing where you’re from, surviving, and pushing forward, with even the artwork mapping that progression, the opposite of the veterans struggling to move a single project. [24HipHop]

→ See why Albeastmode dropped five albums at once →
